The Government's planning inspector has backed Chelmsford Liberal Democrats and Moulsham Lodge campaigners, who all want to stop Essex County Council selling off the community centre as a private clinic. The inspector has today published his appeal decision, which says the building should be retained as a public hall. Fri 26th Jun 2009: Moulsham Lodge Centre - campaign steps up. Moulsham Lodge residents are urged to write to the Government's planning inspector by 10 July - to urge him NOT to allow their community centre to be sold off. Chelmsford Liberal Democrat campaigner Stephen Robinson and the Moulsham Lodge Centre Action Group have written a letter with a leaflet to local residents across the area, urging them to respond by the deadline. Mon 11th May 2009: Moulsham Lodge Centre - campaign setback. Essex County Council has lodged an appeal against the planning decision of Chelmsford Borough Council on Moulsham Lodge Centre. Chelmsford Borough agrees that the centre should remain in community use; Essex County Council wants to sell it off as a private medical centre. The appeal will be considered over the summer. Thu 13th Nov 2008: Success for campaign to save Moulsham Lodge Community Centre. The Moulsham Lodge Community Centre site can only be used as a Community Hall, after a Chelmsford Borough Council planning decision. This follows a three year long campaign led by local Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor Philip Firth. Mon 6th Aug 2007: Moulsham Youth Centre re-opened. Great news for parents. The Moulsham Youth Centre re-opened on Wednesday 25th July and is open every Wednesday during the School holidays with two sessions. Session 1 for youngsters with ages of 8 to 11 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and Session 2 will be for the older group of 12's to 16's from 7.00pm to 9.30pm. If successful it will be opened every Wednesday with all ranges of youth activities taking place under the guidance of PCSO Sandra Strange and helpers. Tue 31st Jul 2007: Back to square one on Moulsham Lodge Centre. Essex County Council are still dithering over the future for Moulsham Lodge Community Centre, despite pressure from the local Lib Dem councillors. David Jones is one of the two Liberal Democrat Borough Councillors for Moulsham Lodge, which he has represented since 1991. He has a strong interest in environmental matters and has served on the Pride in a Cleaner Chelmsford Committee (formerly known as the Cleaner Chelmsford Campaign) for over 12 years. On the Borough Council, he is the Opposition 'Shadow' for Parks and Heritage as well as playing a prominent role on the Licensing and Regulatory Committee.
