Youth unemployment figures a sad milestone say Lib Dems

This week's unemployment figures showed youth unemployment at a record high. Commented Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, Steve Webb MP, "The Government's headline-grabbing announcements haven't even scratched the surface of the problems young people are facing in this recession. This is another sad milestone for young people.

"That slightly fewer people are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance will prove cold comfort to the record number of young people who are looking for work.

"People looking for work shouldn't have to wait 6 months to get intensive support. There needs to be help from day one so that young people get the support they need to get into work."
