Lib Dems launch vision for a Safer, Greener, Fairer Chelmsford5.26.30pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 12th Apr 2007
There will be more Police + Community Support Officers, increased recycling and more funding for pavement and pothole repairs in Chelmsford - if the Liberal Democrats gain control of the Borough Council on 3rd May. These are just a few of the key pledges in the party's Manifesto launched in front of Hylands House. The Manifesto, entitled "For a Safer, Greener, Fairer Chelmsford", sets out the Lib Dem vision for Chelmsford and the action they will take to realise that vision. For the first time, the Lib Dems have a full slate of 57 candidates in 57 seats, underlining their bid to gain control of the authority. Said Liberal Democrat Leader Cllr Chris Rycroft : "We have a wide range of experience amongst our record number of candidates. Some have served on the Council for over twenty years and there are several first-time candidates, young and old, to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm along with maturity and experience.
"If elected to form the administration, Liberal Democrats will deliver a Greener, Safer and Fairer Borough and end four years of dither and delay under the Conservatives. When we first gained control of Chelmsford Council we saved Hylands House: the Tories had wanted to pull it down because they had just left it to rot away. They have delayed recycling and we have now dropped down several places in the Essex recycling league table. "We will deliver high quality public services giving good value for Council Tax Payers' money. In every one of the last four years we have proposed a LOWER council tax and BETTER services than that proposed by the Conservatives. We will continue to make value for money AND good services top priority." Related Link:Download a PDF copy of the full manifesto (708k).
