Lib Dem Cllr. Peter Charman has announced that Tesco is considering a further extension to keep the Post Office on Broomfield Parade open while negotiations with the Post Office continue. He went on, "I'm also delighted that, after we put pressure on it, the Post Office has agreed to waive the fee of over £10,000 for a new Postmaster".

"It was unfortunate," he said, "that the Tory MP suggested that temporary closure could be considered." And Cllr Tom Smith-Hughes said, "We have continually argued that this is 'a closure too far' for the local people here. And any disruption in the business would wreck its chances of continuing."
