Axe the tax on learning too

2.19.43am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 22nd Apr 2004

Lib Dems say tuition fees have widened the gap between social classes, worsened the problems of student debt and they haven't raised more money for universities - the government has just cut back on the money it provides in equal measure to the funds raised by the fees.

Top-up fees will make things worse. They won't raise the money universities need, they are unfair and they will make education based on ability to pay rather than ability to learn.
