Writing in the local papers, Cllrs Jude Deakin and Graham Pooley said:

The re-development of the old Jeep Chrysler garage into 42 flats is now there for all to see. A new 5 storey high monster totally overpowers the attractive historic dwellings that now sit in its shadow.

The very large house - once a pair of semis - has stood empty and boarded up for well over a year and is now much used as a local dumping ground for litter and (some say) an invitation to illicit drinking and drugging.

They support demolishing the old gasworks and developing the area as a retail, leisure and residential destination, but they have attacked what the council is now proposing because it will cram too much development and traffic into one space.
